Story notes: after closing, the hour was booked

Rui is thirty-four and runs the night shift at this spa. Ken is thirty-six, the guest who booked the after-closing hour a week ahead. Both are adults. The scent is strong because Rui mixed it in the afternoon, and Ken said at the door that he wants that smell. She tosses the badge aside because this hour is not on the staff timetable. She has already clocked out. Before the lock turns from the inside, she reads the note they wrote together: he may sign, he may refuse to sign, and refusing means they stop.

The mattress is the one the spa sets aside after closing. It is not a bed that was in service. Before Rui puts a knee on it, she asks whether he still wants to sign tonight. Ken says he does, but he wants to hear her say they can stop one more time. She says it. One lamp stays, because Ken ticked that box on the booking card. No other guest is beyond the window. The desk lamp is already off because that is the closing routine, not because anyone was shut out of the facts.

At 0:20 she slides the note over and waits while he reads it. At 0:50 the badge drops and she asks whether the hour still counts. He says it does. He wants it. At 1:15 her knee meets the mattress and she pauses until his hand comes up to say he wants to continue. At 1:40 he signs. She caps the pen and says they can stop on the signature, or they can keep the rest of the two minutes. At the end she dims the lamp a little and asks if he wants to head home. He says he wants to finish this minute first.

After the signature goes in the drawer, Rui picks up the badge and asks whether the hour still counts as private. Ken says it does. He would want the lamp until the two minutes end, and then they can stop. The mattress is still the one set aside after closing. They do not treat the tick on the booking card as an order nobody can change. On the way out Rui opens the lock herself. The desk lamp is still dark because the spa has closed, not because anyone was left outside the agreement. She asks once more, and he says yes.
